hi Lisa,

: (i'm using comic book gradings to reflect the quailty)
: do you think this is a good idea?

i reckon it's definitely a good idea to use some sort of grading when selling flyers - sellers using "ok" and "great" and "good for their age" to describe condition, doesn't really help much

the Flyers Price Guide has on it's main page the following grading system, which is also used by several sellers on ebay -

M = Mint - no creases / no marks, unblemished - as new
E = Excellent - very slight (hardly visible) creases / corners not perfect - almost mint
VG = Very Good - obvious creases / bluetac marks / clean centre fold - collectable
G = Good - heavy creases / taped / staple holes / faded - still intact
F = Fair - some tears / defaced / very faded / scribbled on - only as a filler
P = Poor - badly torn / scribbled over / incomplete - roach material

i tried to keep it simple, but this means that the width of the "VG" category is equivalent to VG to VF in comix grading

(a bit off-topic, but a common grading associated problem is that many flyers despatched as M and EX arrive as VG because of creased corners, the result of inadequate packaging)

PS on the 'Collections' page of the price guide, there's a 'condition of flyers' para which compares final sale prices for M/EX flyers with those which are VG/G/ungraded - this is only a rough analysis - it doesn't take into account the fact that older flyers, which are likely to be more valuable, are also more likely to be in a worse condition because so many of them have spent much of their lifetime on walls in smoke-filled bedrooms

: hope everones having a good weekend :)
