hi Stare!!

[first apology] i've been meaning to do a list of highest prices paid for flyers for some time, but never got round to it

i was going to restrict it to eBay sales, because these could be verified -- it would still be possible to manipulate winning bids to try and artificially inflate the value of flyers, but if they were suspiciously high this could be commented

one reason for the occasional unexpectedly high price is when the flyer is excessively hyped up -- eg the "ultra rare, banned" Universe Mind Body Soul, and the non-amended Sept 93 Vibealite described as the "rarest ever flyer" (both of which have sold on eBay for less than a quid) -- and then of course the fabulous press releases from A....f..... which if true would mean several of us would be multi-millionaires by now)

and then there's the case when a bidding war gets totally out of control, and becomes a personal battle, the real value of the flyer being irrelevant in the struggle to beat the other person's top bid, no matter how high they go :)

(i've seen an offer of over 60 quid for a flyer, but can't bring myself to give details in case it sets off rumours, cos i wouldn't expect to pay more than a couple of quid for it)

> Average prices have replaced some of the highest prices

yes, and no -- you can still see all(*) the historical prices paid by looking at the html code (View -> Source in Internet Explorer) -- they have been left in as non-displaying comments in case people querried the reason for a particular flyer price -- (how confusing the html code will look depends on the line endings setting of my web page editor at the time, and which program you're using to view it -- eg if it looks crap in Notepad, try pasting it into Wordpad)

* all the sales i know about from August 2003 to July 2007, excluding May 2005 to March 2006 which i have the info for, but haven't had time to add)

[second apology] as you've probably noticed, the price guide hasn't been updated for a while -- partly cos of the intrusion of a couple of real life events (one good, helping co-ordinate a large squatters reunion party, trying to locate a couple of hundred people some not seen for 35 years - and one not so good, death of friend) -- partly cos of escaping into Second Life (if you've spent much time there, you'll know what i mean... like most things, there's a learning curve, but i guess that's part of the fun) -- and partly cos of a succession of energy sapping health problems (none life-threatening, but the cure of each seeming to be the cause of the next)

[third apology] sorry if you've emailed me and not had a reply yet -- it's said 'the road to Hell is paved with good intentions', but hopefully not, cos top of my daily list of things to do is reducing the number of unanswered posts in my inbox

all of which is nothing to do with the original question... most of the high prices i've seen don't reflect the expected value, and are probably one-offs -- anyway, here's a couple that went for over 50 quid -

51.00 - Sunrise, A Midsummer Nights Dream (m/col) (24 Jun 89) - paid eBay, May 2004 - condition unknown
51.00 - Dreamscape 1 (6 Dec 91) - paid eBay, Mar 2004 - condition Good

PS there was a similar thread a couple of years ago started off by phatdave, "Highest priced flyer...?" (9 March 2005) -- (use the link below, or see the 2005 archive, or use the "search message board" facility at the top of the main page) -- in my first post in that thread (10 March) i rambled on about various flyers which could be expected to get high prices -- i expect it's changed since, but probably not that much
