it's probably too obvious to need saying, but it's always best to work with a copy -
then if you totally mess up, you've still got the original
Photoshop has lots of "undo"s (remembering up to 1000 history 'states') -
but saving your work every so often, using different filenames, is still worth doing for peace of mind
