Hi Victor. If you go down the Photoshop route I can give you a few quick tips.
Levels is your best tool for adjusting the light / dark feel and gives the image a nice punch.
Crop tool for, well, cropping.
Removal of creases and filling in gaps from tears etc. you'll want to use the clone stamp tool with a soft brush.
Removal of spots / dust and blu tac type marks, the healing brush tool is best.
